I foremost heard about Sushi Bistro Masa
from a Nipponese educatee I worked with, whose name coincidentally was Masa. He sayed me it was his favorite Nipponese eatery in Columbus and I assured to assay it, even though I conceived he might only be smitten with the name.
Why in Columbus make the suburbs overcome sushi? One of the grounds that it took me bye-bye to assay it, is that if I am attending drive ( all the fashion ) bent on Dublin, and pass a good glob of modification, I desire a vouched good experience. It is thence alluring to stick to the essay and true, Kihachi and Kikyo. Now I can add Sushi Bistro Masa.
There is much of confab about where to encounter the best sushi on Columbus Underground
and Kihachi is ofttimes adverted. While I order Kihachi as one of my overall favorite eatery in Columbus, they are not a dedicated sushi eatery so their day-by-day offer of sushi, whilst first-class, is trammelled. Sushi Bistro Masa ( as the name advises ) holds a much wider orbit of sushi and sashimi, and I would nominate them as a strong, if not top, challenger for the best sushi in town.
Sushi Bistro Masa holds a frequently altering specials card ( Nipponese on one side English on the opposite ) and we enjoin wholly from that. There were many more beguiling offers than we could dine in one visit. We commenced with seaweed salad. Advertisement selected the traditional dark-green seaweed with sesame dressing and I holded mozuku. Our waiter was worried that I would not wish it, but she need n't hold feared, it was delightful, ugly, but delightful. It is true that the appearance and texture could be a trifle forth posing: brownish, slimed and gelatinlike, but the taste wassurprisingly complex and tonic with a complement of OK grated fresh ginger and leeks.

Yakitori is not common plenty in Columbus and we could n't refuse tasting some of the skewers: porc, beef, negima ( chicken with leeks ) and the more unusual but rattlingly tasty mirugai ( geoduck ).

Ankimo ( monkfish liver ) is the pate de foie gras of the ocean with the same creamy texture but a acrid musky smell redolent of the sea. At Sushi Bistro Masa it was functioned as two generous pieces in a light ponzu based sauce. Yet, I would but hold anticipated to see such an exotic Japanese delicacy
on the Kihachi card.

We holded been watching sushi Chef Akio at work and our expectations were high. We enjoin four of the sushi options from the day-after-day specials listing: fresh Pacific billfish, shima aji ( striped shit ), aji ( Spanish mackerel ) and kanpachi ( yellow-brown diddley ). It was so good that we could n't defy more and we enjoin some toro ( fat tuna ) and enquire Chef Akio to pick one - he took coal Tai ( cherry-red center ).

The quality of the fish and acquisition of executing were immaculate. Both of the diddly-shit fishes were buttery-melt-in-the-mouth wonderful. The toro was even more opulent, nighly decadently fat. The mackerel and billfish, both transcended with ponzu, were beautiful stamp bites that doed it difficult to pick a front-runner. Coal the Tai ( Chef Akio exerted a blow torch ) added both an interesting flavor and textural dimension to what is otherwise a really mild fish. This advanced a fish we holded ignored as a dull selection to mayhap our favorite nigiri of the nighttime.
Sitting at the sushi saloon ( our preferable place in any sushi eatery ) letted us to watch Chef Akio in action and likewise gave us the chance to chit-chat with him afterwards in the eve. Although he holds simply been in Columbus for a few eld, he passed 13 eld working in City of the angels, primarily at a eatery in Venice Beach. Initially reserved he was happy to reply interrogations and we bumped him rather cordial. Our waiter was besides well-read about the specials.
We completed the repast sated but hungry for more of Sushi Bistro Masa. We are already plotting to return for an omakase dinner. While splendid sushi is ne'er inexpensive, we experienced that the single points were fairly priced and that Sushi Bistro Masa was good value for the quality of the nutrient.
